QUICK KICKS
Tussle in T-Town
Entering with a two-match winning streak, Georgia looks for a signature victory as it travels to Tuscaloosa to face No. 8 Alabama Thursday evening at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. The Bulldogs are looking for their first win against the Crimson Tide since a 3-0 win on Oct. 21, 2010 in Tuscaloosa. The sides have tied in their previous two meetings (2023, 2024) and in three of the previous four contests. Georgia is also looking for its first ranked win since topping No. 25 Mississippi State last season, as well as the third top-10 win under head coach Keidane McAlpine. The program has earned 10 top 10 wins in program history.
Back-to-Back
Hailey Gordon’s first goal of the season came at the perfect time for Georgia as it took down Ole Miss, 1-0, last Friday in Athens. In the 74th minute, Gordon took a cross from teammate Mona Childsshook off her defender and scored in the top right corner for the winner. It was the third goal of her career, with all three coming against the Rebels. Georgia outshot Ole Miss, 20-4, in a chippy game which featured 22 fouls and five yellow cards, including bookings for both head coaches.
Road Warriors
Georgia has found tremendous success away from home in the Keidane McAlpine era, earning a result in 19 of 22 SEC regular season matches over his first four seasons. Aside from a loss last season at Tennessee, the Bulldogs have won or tied 11 of their last 12 conference road matches dating back to September 2024.
Dawg Bites
For three of Georgia’s coaches, Thursday’s match is a sort of homecoming. Head coach Keidane McAlpineassociate head coach Jason Lockhartand assistant coach Kat Crump are all natives of Huntsville, Alabama. McAlpine played college soccer at Birmingham-Southern from 1993-96.
Georgia will look to regain its prowess for strong starts, having been shut out in the first half in each of the past two matches. Prior to the past three matches, the Bulldogs had scored in the opening half in nine of its first 10 matches. The Bulldogs will also seek to carry the momentum from its first comeback win in nearly three seasons, having previously tied or lost six matches this seasons in which they held the lead.
As the season heads down the stretch, Kiera Staude is approaching vaunted territory in program history. With 5,953 minutes entering Friday, she is close to becoming a rare member of Georgia’s 6,000-minute club. With 78 appearances and 75 starts, she is also nearing the program top 10 in each category. Elsewhere, Sage Glover made her 81st collegiate appearance last Friday.
Georgia’s roster is notable as one of the youngest across the country. With 18 underclassmen, the Bulldogs are tied with Air Force and Saint Bonaventure for the second-most in DI women’s soccer, trailing only Middle Tennessee at 22.
Sophomore Hannah Folliard returns to the roster Thursday after being called up to the USWNT U18/U19 training camp in West Palm Beach, Florida.
